DOS - THIRD MOLAR/EXTRACTIONS/GRAFTING
DEFAULT INSTRUCTIONS
Medicated mouth rinse twice per day until your next appointment (No spitting for 1 week)
Brush your teeth today and avoid the areas where the teeth were removed.
Tomorrow, gently brush regions with a soft toothbrush (https://www.napervilleoralsurgery.com/how-to-properly-brush-areas-after-surgery/). If you have an electric toothbrush you can turn it off in those areas.
Avoid crunchy and/or hard foods until gums have grown over the area(s). This is usually 3-4 weeks.
Continue icing the face as much as possible for the first 24–36 hours. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
Please do not lay flat. Use 1–2 pillows to elevate the head to avoid or minimize swelling.
Drink plenty of fluids
Avoid hot liquids or hot foods
Soft liquidy foods are strongly recommended on the day of the procedure. Pudding, JELL-O®, applesauce, yogurt, ice cream, and smoothies are excellent options for the day of the procedure
You should eat only soft foods for the first week, such as scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, soft fish and steamed vegetables
Start Jaw exercises the day after the procedure (https://www.napervilleoralsurgery.com/how-to-properly-do-jaw-stretching-after-surgery/).
No spitting and/or sucking through a straw.
Continue to use the syringe for 2 weeks (https://www.napervilleoralsurgery.com/how-to-properly-irrigate-after-surgery/)
Continue to use the syringe until you no longer clear food from the sockets (https://www.napervilleoralsurgery.com/how-to-properly-irrigate-after-surgery/)

No strenuous physical activity for 3-4 days following surgery
Alcoholic beverages should be avoided for 24 hours before and 5 days after surgery
Smoking should be avoided or limited as much as possible

Salt water rinses twice per day until your next appointment.
Avoid brushing area for 1 more week.
